What It Sounds Like to Renew Culture
Our summer music camp may be over, but we are still hearing from families about the experience and the impact it had on their children.
Over four days, 60 young people came together to learn music, sing, pray, make friends, and enjoy a summer week together. We put together this short collection of photos and videos from the camp, set to the voices of our campers singing some of the songs they learned during the week.
In the weeks since camp, we have received some wonderful feedback from parents.
"The quality of faith formation and the richness of the music at this camp are exceptional and rare to find for children this age. The authentic joy of the community and the active and ongoing welcome for each person made our children feel at home. The combination of Catholicism and friendship is invaluable. The spillover of singing to our home has been a real delight."
Another parent wrote:
"Our family's experience with the camp was absolutely excellent. My children came home and told us they felt the camp was a life-changing experience and they loved everything about it and had a wonderful time. I'm hoping the camp takes place again next year."
One parent also shared what she noticed in her son during the closing recital:
“I saw the transformation in my son before I ever had the chance to speak with him. I could see in his face and his body during the recital that the Lord had abundantly poured His graces upon my son.”
She went on to tell us that since coming home, her son has been more patient with his younger brother and has taken a natural interest in mentoring him. He has also picked up his fiddle every day since camp and was so enthusiastic about the new pieces he learned that he asked to meet with his teacher over the summer to share them.
We are grateful to hear about these fruits of the camp. Our hope was not only that the campers would improve as musicians, but that they would grow in their faith, make good friendships, and experience the joy of making and sharing music together.
Thank you to all the families who sent their children, and to the instructors, counsellors, volunteers, and staff who made the week possible. We are grateful for the work that went into the camp and for the many ways God blessed it.
We are already looking forward to next summer.
This is what it sounds like to renew culture.
